Additional Theater Information
Text from the Rexburg Arts Council web site
The Westwood Theatre opened in 1917, as the Rex, showing silent films and hosting Vaudeville shows.
In 1935, the Rex was remodeled and renamed the Romance and began showing movies with sound.
In 1976, following extensive damage by the Teton Dam flood disaster, the theater was sold, again remodeled and renamed the Westwood. Carmike Cinemas bought the Westwood in 1998, and ran the movie house until it closed March 29, 2001.
In 2005, the City of Rexburg purchased the Westwood. The theater has now been remodeled for community entertainment and events. Movies, plays, concerts, recitals, meetings, and parties are a few of the uses of this 420 seat theater.
