Marcus Theatres Announces Plans for New UltraScreen in Elgin, Illinois
Will Be One of the Largest Screens in Chicago Area
MILWAUKEE -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- June 5, 2003 -- Marcus Theatres Corporation, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS), today announced plans to build its fourth UltraScreen(TM) auditorium in Elgin, Illinois. This will be the company's first UltraScreen in the Chicago area. The new auditorium will be a 500-seat addition to the company's 14-screen Elgin Cinema.
"A totally incredible moviegoing experience," is how Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres Corporation, describes the gigantic UltraScreen planned for Elgin. "Imagine seeing the biggest event films of the year on a screen that is three-stories tall and almost three times wider than the typical movie screen and hearing movies in amazing multi-channel digital sound. The UltraScreen takes moviegoing to a totally a new level of excitement that can never be experienced at home. The UltraScreen is 500 times bigger than a typical 19" television screen," said Olson.
"Part of the magic of going to the movies is having a larger-than-life experience. The UltraScreen, with its razor sharp three-story tall picture, crystal clear digital sound and comfortable stadium seats, will be Marcus movie magic at its best. The UltraScreen auditorium will boast a screen 70 feet wide by 30 feet tall. That will make the Elgin UltraScreen one of the biggest traditional movie screens in the Chicago area," Olson said.
"The new Elgin UltraScreen will stretch from wall-to-wall and totally engage audiences in the experience of attending a movie. Marcus Theatres' UltraScreens in Milwaukee, Madison and Appleton, Wisconsin, have proven to be extremely popular in attracting people from throughout their regions," Olson said.
"To complement the grand sweep of our giant screen presentation, the UltraScreen will feature more than 10,000 watts of six-channel Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround EX sound, JBL certified sound, and a bright, giant picture projected through state-of-the-art lenses for maximum sharpness and clarity," said Olson.
The 500-seat stadium-seating auditorium addition to the Elgin Cinema also features comfortable plush highback seats with cupholder arms, doublewide "Love Seats" and convenient access for wheelchair users.
Construction on the Elgin Cinema, 111 South Randall Road, is planned to begin this summer with an anticipated opening in early 2004.
