Ruby Isle Closes Its Doors January 1st

On January 1, 1995, Ruby Isle Theatre in Brookfield will show its last movie. The theater, located in the Ruby Isle Shopping Center on the corner of Calhoun Road and North Avenue, cited declining attendance due in part to the rapid progression of movies to video and the opening of Value Cinemas-Brookfield.

The 800 seat theater was built 30 years ago, and was operated by United Artists. Six years ago, Tony and Ellen Groh purchased the business when UA was no longer interested in it. Now, it seems, the public is no longer interested in the Ruby Isle Theatre as well.

The first movie to be shown at Ruby Isle Theatre was "Ulysses". The Groh's have decided to show two movies in the final weekend at no cost to the public, as a way of thanking the community for the last 30 years. Showing at the theater this weekend, ending Monday, January 1st, is " Indian in the Cupboard" and "Nine Months". Call the theater at 414-786-7840 for showtimes.
