New Star Wars Trailer - "Reader Reactions"
[11/18/98]

As reported by Ron Higgins, who attended a sneak preview of the trailer on Tuesday, November 17th, 1998 at North Shore Cinema.

.....The theater is sold out, people standing along the sides, nervous tension in the air......

The curtain starts to open, people cheer!

The trailer screen comes on, "This preview rated...., blah, blah", and then...... A Bug's Life. Some scattered booing.

Lights go down, next trailer screen comes on, "This preview rated.....blah, blah, etc...." and someone yells out, "Is this it?" The screen goes dark, the theater is packed, yet there isn't a sound heard in the entire place. Then the LucasFilm logo appears on screen. Chills run up and down my spine, and half the theater cheers while the other half tells them to be quiet. :)

Bam, the trailer is on the screen, and in your face. Music, sound effects, the whole thing is moving too fast, where is the pause button?!?

Then it's over, and loud cheering, screaming, and clapping is heard throughout the theater.

Some people get up and leave, having paid $7.00 just to see the trailer....but most of them stay, and enjoy the movie. "The Waterboy".

Movie wasn't bad, the crowd was into it, cheering and clapping at appropriate parts.

The credits start to roll, some people get up to leave, but the majority stay because we know they're going to show the Star Wars trailer again after the credits.

This time the trailer didn't seem to fly by as quick. Got to see more things, and think about the concepts a bit more. As it ends, once again, loud cheers go up throughout the theater and the crowd leaves very happy and satisfied.

Very cool. I drove 45min each way to see the trailer, but it was well worth it.

For those of you who haven't seen the trailer in the theater yet, make sure you get a chance! Until then, take a look at the trailer in a variety of video formats on the Official Star Wars web site's Trailer Page.
