OKA! tells the true story of an American ethnomusicologist and his life with the Bayaka people of the Central African rainforest. Twenty five years ago, Louis Sarno traveled from New Jersey to the forests of Central Africa to record the music of the Bayaka Pygmies. Falling in love with a Bayaka girl and her forest lifestyle, he decided to stay. OKA! – which means "listen!" in the pygmy Akka language – is based on Sarno's memoir "Last Thoughts Before Vanishing from the Face of the Earth" and features a magnificent cast of local Bayaka.
