"Frences" is a powerful drama adapted from the stage by August Wilson who also wrote the screenplay. the film which stars Denzel Washington, who also directed the movie is about a ex-ball player who was too old to play in the major leagues and he took out his anger on his wife (viola Davis) and his sons.I'm glad that the actor bough the play to the big screen because nowadays plays and musicals cost too much. The musical "Hamilton" cost $200 a ticket) The movie was shot on location, which for a movie like 'Frences" it's better made than the closed stage which the play was based on. this is the first movie which Denzel Washington directed. He'll probably go a direct another movie, becaue what he did he directed a great movie so that more people will see that movie for themselves.

Denzel Washington directs and stars in a pretty boring character study that was a bit too long of a movie. Both Viola Davis and Denzel Washington deliver emotion filled performances, but the story (and characters) are pretty one-dimensional. And the ending was chalk-full of "symbolism" that just didn't connect. Still though, I can see the performances getting some Oscar noms this awards season.
