"Luther" asked this question,"What does it take to be a rebel?" The answers comes in this movie which told of the life of Martin Luther, who rebels against the Catholic Church and risking his own life to come up with it own reforms, which includes the German Bible, inwhich came out less than 100 years before the King James version in England and posting the 95 thesis on the door of the Catholic Church. Joseph Finnes played Martin Luther and he played it very well. Here is a man who is not out to change the world, but to reform the church. And he achieve that goal with that promise. "Luther" is one smart history lesson about a man who refuses to give up on the church or his people.

A must see film for anyone who wants to learn more about the life of Martin Luther, who started the Protestant Reformation and brought the Bible to the common person.

A well done movie. It gave a more even hand treatment of the Reformation than the PBS documentary of the same name and included all the relevant happenings of the time.

The treatment of the peasant’s re-volt and the subsequent nobility’s crackdown was necessary and not over done - Oh the cruelties that are done in the name of religion. The one thing not covered enough to my thinking was the effect the discovery of the printing press had regarding translation and general distribution of the bible in common language - really only a single scene.
