Director David Cronenberg's best movie ever. A powerful drama about a connection between a orphaned baby and a russian mob in London. someone will probaby ask me a question."How come it's okay for a baby to be in a movie like "Eastern Promise.", while it's not okay for a baby to be in "Shoot Em' Up?" Answer:"Eastern Promise" endorses story, "Shoot Em' Up" endorses viloence and body count. There is a big difference between the two movies. Namoi Watts gave a great performance. I've been following her career since "Mulholland Drive" in 2001. "Eastrn Promise" has me spellbound and it's one of the best films of 2007.

Eastern Promises is not going to be to everyone's liking. It's disturbing at times, graphic at other times, and doesn't have a "mainstream" ending.
As usual, Viggo Mortensen does a very good job in his role as the driver for a Russian mob family that develops an uneasy relationship with Naomi Watts' midwife character. It is no surprise that he was nominated for an Academy Award for his role.
While not a movie that will have mainstream appeal, it is, however, a good movie, and well worth watching in my opinion.
