The classic 1960 film directed by Stanley Kurbrick and starring Kirk Douglas in the title role as the gladitor who lead a revolt against the Romans.

One of my favorite scenes is when the Roman general demanding to know the identity of Spartacus. then before Kirk can answer his friends around got up and said that they are Spartacus.

A classic to enjoy. Fourty years later, another gladator picture named "Gladator" with Russell Crowne made the big screen.

I think BigScreen should have another ratings catagory 'CLASSIC'

Spartacus certainly is. With standout performances by Douglas and Sir Laurence Olivier. Sentimental material from Tony Curtis and Jean Simmons and with the brilliant Peter Ustinov as the long suffering owner of the slave and gladiator Spartacus.

Arguably the best movie that Kirk Douglas ever made, though The Vikings was another good one in my books (Again with Curtis) the run time of just a tad over 3 hours and the downbeat ending have led a lot of people to look negatively at it.

Unfortunately(?) Spartacus is based on true events and not everything in life has a happy, Hollywood ending. But don't let that stop you seeing this epic.

8/10 Any comments on my comments are welcome at fdperth@wiredcity.com.au
