Kevin Kline is great! A real "feel good" movie. I appreciated mostly all of the humor. I noticed that most of people in the theartre were having as much fun with it as I was. A definite must, I feel it put The Bird Cage to shame. Hat's off to the writer and all the cast!

Rating: Not sure how I would feel about this film at any price. Truly Starring: Kevin Kline, Joan Cusack, Tom Selleck (seriously he was actually in this movie), Debbie Reynolds (can we say "Tammy Grows Up"), Bob Newhart (remember those times you played "Bob"), Wilford Brimley (do you ever wonder what he looked like as a kid), and Matt Dillon (does this guy ever age). But Also Starring: no one else that I knew

First of all....I think I liked it somewhat! I was hoping I would love it...but I didn't, I only kinda sorta somewhat liked it. The best way to describe this film is this...it was like being transported back to the 60s and watching "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" for the very first time. At that time we watched a movie about a relationship between a black man and a white woman and were faced with confronting certain feelings we had towards this issue. Today if you watched that same movie, you would probably still laugh at some of the lines, but at the same time you would be shaking your head and asking, "were we really that ignorant?" "In & Out" attempts to use the same style of humor of "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" to get this issue out in the open....but the title could easily have been "Guess Who's Coming Out of the Closet". In all honesty, I found myself laughing at some of the lines and found humor in some of the scenes, but afterwards I did wonder if I should have been laughing. I think this movie made fun of the negative stereotypes that some people have towards gays. I don't believe the people behind this film were trying to make a buck at the expense of others, for they could have done it in a different way. I tend to believe that the film makers were trying to make a point...what that point is I am not sure. So what is this film about...it's about a school teacher in a small town who is accused of being gay. Then for the next 90 minutes you get to sit back and see how the town reacts to him and how he responds to the town. Bottom line....I hope we will look back at this film in 30 years and still share a laugh or two, but I also hope we will shake our heads and ask "were we really that ignorant".

I liked this movie, Kevin Kline has always been one of my favorite actors because of his versatility and style. I laughed a lot, and really just had fun without having to concentrate on the plot.

In and Out was absolutely hysterical. It's definately a movie to see with your girlfriends (guys, not with a heap of your buddies. The plot was very easy to follow and I didn't look at my watch once. It's a movie where the entire audience was involved and everyone laughed in unison. A definately "must see" movie.

I thought this movie was very funny! Kevin Kline had me in stiches along with Tom Selleck! I am so glad that I saw this movie now instead of waiting for it on video, because it's better to watch with a large group of people.

My friend and I saw the movie "In & Out" and it made us laugh! It was funny through the whole movie. If you need a good laugh I recommend seeing this movie! Hope you go and see it!

One of the most painful memories of 1996 was sitting through "The Birdcage", a major mess of a movie that totally blasted the gay people by stereotyping them as pink shirt wearing fluffies that talk with a high-pitched lisp and wave their hands about. It gave everyone the wrong impression of gay people, and they went with it as the "set" standard of gay people. (Hey, anyone who isn't a crossdresser and who doesn't wear pink shirts is NOT gay! They just aren't!)

Finally a movie looks at a gay person in cold, tough reality. Or so we think about this person. "In and Out" tells the story of a high school teacher by the name of Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline), who is mildly famous, for the reason of his famous ex-student, Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon), an Oscar nominee. On the night of the oscars, Cameron wins, only to thank his teacher Howard, adding "And he's gay!" to the speech.

This causes an uproar in Howard's small town, and the media, looking for a story, go huntintg Howard. (I still don't know why the media would go this nuts, but oh well) Included in this media is Peter Malloy (Tom Selleck), who is gay, and pursues Howard in more ways than one.

Is Howard gay, or isn't he? Part of the realistic nightmare of "In and Out" is how the media overblows such an irrelavant topic and destroys the person they are trying to get news from. For Howard, he is put to a personal conflict, asking himself "Am I gay?", even subjecting himself to a humiliating book on tape test of his masculinity.

"In and Out" is a comedy, though, but it should have been a drama about the destruction of a high school teacher through the media. But the movie is lots of fun, with the actors giving great performances. Chiefly, an oscar worthy performance from the wonderful Joan Cusack as Emily, his fiancee, a good fork in the fight of Howard's masculinity.

The movie is also really funny too. Certainly one of the funniest this year. But the movie has so many plot holes (Oscars happen in March and Graduation happens in June, but somehow these events take place in two weeks) and murky points. But at least Kevin Kline and Joan Cusack keep it alive. If only the movie was as energetic as them.

Grade: B

Tech Review:

Picture: 4.5 A very solid picture with good colors. A little weak on the blacks, but satisfying picture.

Sound: 3.5 Only mixed in Dolby Digital, the surrounds are very limited, with the exception of Cameron Drake's movie clip, which has great split surrounds. The dialouge is good but at points it is really harsh and noisy.

Photography: 1 Matted to 1.85:1. If you have read my other reviews, you know what I mean.

This movie was better than I anticipated because movies about this subject matter are usually not that good. In and Out was written well and was very funny. While I like Kevin Kline's performance, I thought Joan Cusack made the movie. She was very funny as the confused bride-to-be. I saw this movie at a budget theatre but it would have been worth regular movie price.

"In and Out" is a comedy of sexual morals. A professor name Howard Brackett (played by Kevin Kline) who's life is disrupted, when actor Cameron Drake (played by Matt Dillion), who won the Academy Awards announced that Brackett is gay. Tom Selleck played a TV reporter name Peter Malloy, whose is also happens to be gay. Joan Crusak is very funny as the jitted bride, who Brackettis suspose to marry. This film is funny.
