Marvel has announced that the titles for the two upcoming Avengers movies have changed.

What was previously known as Avengers: Infinity War Part I is now going by the title Avengers: Infinity War . It's May 4th, 2018 has not changed. What was originally titled Avengers: Infinity War Part II now has a placeholder title of Untitled Avengers. It, too, has not changed its original release date of May 3rd, 2019.

Some sources have reported that directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo always planned to change the names of the movies, but it's also quite possible that Marvel has realized that fans are tired of two-part stories.

That trend began with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 in 2010, which was the series finale that was broken up into two parts. It made fans wait until almost eight months later when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was released, just to see the story brought to its conclusion. Unfortunately, other series copied that approach, and each met with decreased success compared to the earlier, complete, installments. Probably the most extreme example of splitting a single story was the three-parter that was the Hobbit movies. While fans (like me) did enjoy spending more time in Middle Earth, the story of each movie suffered as a result of stretching the original 300-page story into nearby eight hours of movies (not counting the longer extended editions).

Whatever the reasoning, it appears that Infinity War will be a complete story when it comes out in 2018, and so will the next installment in the series. Hopefully, that's a trend that all the movie studios will embrace!
