The historic Parkway Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland has reopened, with a new mission and serving as the year-round home of the Maryland Film Festival, which is held each May.

The theater originally opened in 1915 and was last used for showing movies in 1978, when it was known as The 5 West (a nod to its address). Instead of just one large auditorium, there is now a two-tier 414-seat auditorium and two 84-seat screening rooms, as well as seminar space for film students.

The theater is just a couple of blocks away from the Charles Theatre, which shows "first-run specialty films in addition to Hollywood movies, foreign films and cinema classics."

According to the web site for the Maryland Film Festival, moviegoers should expect the following from the programming choices at the theater:

The Parkway’s curated, bold programming will showcase films from every era, region, and genre, with a focus on independent, international, documentary, classic, and cult-favorite films, providing audiences with a fresh and immersive new window into the art form.

For more information about the theater, you can visit the Maryland Film Festival web site, Facebook page, and Twitter feed by going to the Related Web Sites page for the Parkway Theatre. We have hope to have movies and showtimes soon, so keep an eye on the Showtimes page for updates!
