The latest installment in the "Bourne Identity" series of movies, Jason Bourne, is coming to theaters on July 29, 2016, and if you want to catch up on what all the fuss is about, Gift Shop merchant Amazon.com has a four-pack of the previous installments for just $23.99 right now.
It all started with The Bourne Identity in 2002. Matt Damon takes Franke Potente on a road trip across Europe as he attempts to figure out who he is, and why he's being chased by seemingly every government organization he comes across. The adventure continued in 2004 with The Bourne Supremacy, where he's drawn back into his former life and must navigate the dangerous waters of international espionage to find the truth behind his haunted memories, save the woman he loves, stop a mysterious assassin, and avoid detection. Things wrapped up (for Damon, anyway) with The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. Unable to disappear from his past, he turns the tables and goes on the offensive to determine who he really is, and travels from Moscow, Paris and London to Tangier and New York City as he continues his quest to find the real Jason Bourne--all the while trying to outmaneuver the scores of cops, federal officers and Interpol agents with him in their crosshairs.
All by themselves, this trilogy of movies represents near perfection when it comes to this genre. The last installment garnered three Academy Award wins (for sound mixing, sound editing, and film editing). Aside from the fascination with the shaky-cam, you're not going to find a more enjoyable several hours of action and espionage.
The Bourne universe attempted an expansion in 2012 with Jeremy Renner as a fellow agent of Jason Bourne's in The Bourne Legacy. Renner's Aaron Cross is on the run after being targeted by his own organization, and enlists the help of one of the original scientists in the program, played by Rachel Weisz. While not as successful as the other installments, this is a credible installment in the series and worth watching.
Since the new movie is coming out soon, the previous movies are ripe for re-release, and Amazon.com has the box set of all four movies, The Bourne Classified Collection on Blu-ray, available for pre-order for just $23.99, which comes to just $6 per movie. This box set gets released on June 14th, so you will have plenty of time to watch all four movies before the new one hits theaters!
