At the CEDIA 2016 show earlier this month, Sony announced their first Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the UBP-X1000ES. It's aimed at the higher end of the market, so it won't likely appear on the shelves of Best Buy but rather at specialty retailers and custom installers.
Even if this isn't a consumer-level model, it's a good sign that Sony is getting into the game. With enthusiast favorite OPPO showing off a pre-production Ultra HD replacement for their popular BDP-103, Sony probably wanted to stay in the hearts and minds of those looking to get into Ultra HD Blu-ray in the coming months, or are early adopters of the first-gen models from Samsung and Philips looking to upgrade to more features and/or performance.
Home theater web site High-Def Digest had a chance to take the player for a spin and got some screenshots of the various screens of the interface and asked Sony reps some questions. If you're interested, click the Read link below to check it out!
