A fire has severely damaged the building that once housed the State Theater at 2616 W. State Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Movies haven't been shown there since 1955, and it later hosted musical acts such as The Police, U2, Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello, and more under the names of Electric Ballroom and The Palms, and then became a strip club that was shut down in 1991. The building has been vacant since, and is owned by the city of Milwaukee.

According to local movie historian Larry Widen's book Milwaukee Movie Palaces, the State Theater opened in 1915 and closed in 1955.
