Oriental Theatre PhotoThe Landmark Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will be owned by the organizers of the Milwaukee Film Festival starting on July 1, 2018 according to a recent announcement by Milwaukee Film:

Normally we don’t reach out to you on the weekends, but today’s a very special day for all of us here at Milwaukee Film. We’re beyond thrilled to announce that, beginning July 1, 2018, we will begin a 31-year lease at the Oriental Theatre.

Having our own venue has been a dream of ours since day one. But to have that venue be one as gorgeous and important as the Oriental Theatre makes it even more special for us.

Landmark Theatres currently operates the Oriental Theatre as well as the nearby Landmark Downer Theatre. It opened in 1927 and Landmark Theatres took over in 1976.

Milwaukee Film signed a 31-year lease to operate the theater, which is owned by New Land Enterprises, according to the FAQ on Milwaukee Film's web site. The theater has been one of the venues for the annual Milwaukee Film Festival, which will be held this year from September 28 through October 12. They intend to keep the Oriental Theatre name and also keep the long-running tradition of showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

To see what's currently playing at the theater and when, and to buy tickets online, please visit the Showtimes page for the Landmark Oriental Theatre.
