The Marcus Value Cinema - Oak Creek in Oak Creek, Wisconsin is being sold to The Ridge Community Church, according to a recent article published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
The cinema, 6912 S. 27th St., will continue to operate until the sale is completed, which is expected to be in 2017. The Ridge plans to open its Oak Creek church next fall.
Terms of the pending sale, announced Wednesday, weren't disclosed.
“We are excited for the opportunity to serve the people of Oak Creek and surrounding communities," Mark Weigt, lead pastor, said in statement.

Sale Continues Trend Away from Discount Theaters
The sale continues the trend in the Milwaukee area away from discount-priced movie theaters. A popular budget theater in Greenfield, the Silver Cinemas - Budget South (about 16 miles west), closed in late 2015. Marcus closed the Marcus Superior Value Cinema in Superior (northern Wisconsin) in December 2015. The Oak Creek location is the last movie theater in the Milwaukee Metro area owned by Marcus that shows movies for less than $5 per ticket.
The trend is actually going in the other direction, with theaters across the country adding more luxury amenities to their theaters, with raised ticket prices and surcharges to go with those amenities. Marcus has been added their DreamLounger seating, for example, which reduces the total capacity of the auditorium, but in exchange, they are getting more money per ticket, so the bottom line in the industry has been favoring those moves.
Other Options in the Area
Once the theater closes, which is expected to happen some time in 2017, moviegoers in the area will need to visit other nearby theaters, such as the recently-remodeled Marcus South Shore Cinemas, which is located just east of I-94 a block south of Rawson Avenue, and the Marcus Showtime Cinema in Franklin near Loomis Road and Highway 100.
Ticket prices at those theaters are higher than at the Value Cinema, but the Showtime Cinema comes the closest at $5 matinees and $7 evening ticket prices. South Shore starts at $8.75 for adult matinee shows.
