Back on September 5th, we reported that the Marcus Westgate Cinema in Racine, Wisconsin was going to close after the opening of the new Marcus Cinema at the Renaissance in November.

The Journal Times in Racine is reporting that the last shows at the Westgate happened on Sunday:

Now Westgate is going the way of its predecessors. Marcus Theatres, the current owner of Westgate, decided to close the five-screen cinema in preparation for the November opening of its 16-screen multiplex in Sturtevant; Regency Mall Cinema will then become a budget theater, and the city's days of having a first-run movie house will be over.

The Renaissance location is still under construction (see construction photos) so there must have been a reason to move up the closing of the Westgate.

Marcus Theaters closed a Madison theater recently in much the same fashion. The Marcus South Towne Cinema in Monona closed on September 17th, even though the new theater that was announced by Marcus recently hasn't broken ground yet.
