The AMC Classic Pines 1 in Silsbee, Texas appears to have closed permanently after sustaining damage from hurricane/tropical storm Harvey. The news comes from an article published recently in the Beaumont Enterprise:

The glass popcorn machine sits empty, and a piece of wood covers the slot at the ticket counter at the Pines Theater in downtown Silsbee.

The marquee, which still reads "Wonder Woman 2D" beneath the iconic neon "Pines" sign, announces that the theater is closed, with no date set to reopen.

The future of the 1948 theater, now operated by AMC, is unknown after it sustained damage during Harvey. Employees were told recently that they wouldn't reopen after the storm, and the Silsbee Economic Development Corporation said in a Facebook post Monday that the company has not made a decision about the one-screen theater.

AMC did not respond to requests for comment on the theater, known throughout the community as a local institution and landmark.

Click the Read link below to view the full article. The last time we received showtimes for the theater was on August 31, 2017. Located northeast of Houston, Silsbee and the rest of Hardin County experienced heavy rains and flooding in late August as a result of the storm.

Moviegoers in the area will need to visit one of the other nearby theaters, including the Regal Star Stadium 12 and the Cinemark Beaumont 15 and XD in Beaumont.
