The Star Cinema Grill - Clear Lake in Webster, Texas closed in November 2015 and relocated to the Baybrook Mall, less than two miles away, as the Star Cinema Grill - Baybrook. Nearly two years later, the company is reopening the former location as the District Theatres.

According to an article published recently by Connection Newspapers, the new theater will open in July 2017. It will also differ from the Star Cinema Grill locations in that it will not serve moviegoers at their seats, but rather in a cafeteria style where you choose your food and drinks and take them with you to the auditorium:

District Theaters will offer residents yet another dine-in theater concept in the area. The venue is scheduled to open by mid-July at 1020 NASA Road 1, company representatives said.

“District Theaters is a small neighborhood theater that blends a traditional movie experience and a cafe style restaurant,” General Manager Neil Kustanbauter said.

The menu will offer a wide-range of selections for customers during films, Kustanbauter said.

“If you want to have popcorn, candy and a soda just like when you were a kid, we will have all of those at our concession stand,” he said. “Or, if you want to have a grilled short rib sandwich and a pint of craft beer because you aren’t a kid anymore, we have 18 taps and a full kitchen.”

The goal of District Theaters is to give residents options, Kustanbauter said.

“District Theaters will bring the community the luxury of choice,” he said. “The choice to avoid the mall traffic and stay close to home.”

When it opens the theater will be competing for the attention of moviegoers with the Premiere Cinemas - Premiere Nasa Dollar 8 and the Cinemark 18 - Webster.
