Carmike Cinemas logoCarmike Cinemas, Inc. announced this week that a new "Carmike entertainment complex" will be located at The Village at Myrtle Grove in Wilmington, North Carolina, and that it is expected to open in Summer 2012.

The new movie theater will feature ten screens, with one of them being one of Carmike's "BigD" big-screen concepts. The "BigD Experience" is what Carmike calls their version of the upgraded auditoriums that are all the rage in theater building in recent times. This installation is scheduled to have a 78-foot wide screen, illuminated by a Digital Cinema Projection system capable of both 2D and 3D presentations, which also feeds a 7.1 channel surround sound system.

The Village at Myrtle Grove is located at 5511 Carolina Boulevard, near the intersection of Highway 421 and Piner Road.
