IMAX Corporation continues its expansion with a deal announced today with Regal Cinemas. According to their press release, the two companies have entered into a joint venture that will install 31 IMAX digital projection systems into Regal locations in 20 markets. The first group of installations is expected to be completed in time for the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: The IMAX Experience on November 21, 2008.
These new installations will be the new digital system designed for the IMAX MPX® design, which is a smaller-scale system that more easily fits into traditional movie theater designs. The release mentions that this partnership will bring Regal's total number of IMAX theaters to 52 by the end of 2010.
