Variety published a story yesterday about an Indian film conglomerate, Reliance ADAG, forming a theater chain by buying up theaters across the U.S. The launch is set for April.
The new company, Reliance Entertainment, will have 250 screens in 28 locations across the country, including sites in New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, San Jose, Los Angeles, Washington state, and Washington, D.C. The new theaters will carry the "Big Cinemas" brand after their renovations are completed.
"Hollywood films will be the majority, but we could also show popular Chinese or Korean cinema," [Reliance Capital senior VP Anil] Arjun said. "Hindi-language Bollywood films are currently all that America sees of Indian films. We will play Tamil and Telegu too."
