|Home: BigScreen Journal - Yuba City, CA: Construction Begins on New Movies 12|
The Appeal-Democrat in Yuba City, California is reporting that construction has begun on a new 12-screen, 38,000 square foot theater next to the Cinemark Yuba City 8 on Whyler Road.
Developers are now looking forward to speedy construction on a project that has seen more delays and more plot twists and turns than a B-grade detective thriller. Those twists include a city moratorium on theaters outside of downtown, allegations of California Environmental Quality Act noncompliance, multiple traffic studies, and a planned street running over the theater site.
"We're in full gun until it's done," said John Ochipinti, the project's builder and developer.
This week will mark the start of work by concrete and steel crews on the cinema building. Grading and site work began in late March.
The new theater is scheduled to open in mid-November 2008, and the Movies 8 will stay open until mid-September.
