|Home: BigScreen Journal - Cleveland, OH: Atlas Cinemas Goes All-Digital Projection in All 3 Cleveland-area Locations|
The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio is reporting that Atlas Cinemas has converted all three of its Cleveland-area locations to Digital Cinema Projection systems.
Theaters' conversion to digital has been slowed by contention over who should pay for it, the studios or the theater chains. Atlas paid for its digital projectors but worked out a money-saving deal with the digital-installation company. The installation firm discounted the installation; Atlas funnels some of its pre-movie ad revenue to the firm, [Chris Baxter, Atlas Cinemas general manager] said.
The quest to keep up with technology continues. Atlas plans to install a 3-D digital projector at Great Lakes this year to take advantage of 3-D blockbuster releases. Lake Shore already has a satellite dish for capturing live events; satellite dishes will be installed soon at Great Lakes and Diamond, Baxter said.
