The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that two Showcase Cinemas locations in the Cincinnati, Ohio area have closed:
Spokeswoman Tracy King of National Amusements, operator of the Showcase chain, declined to comment.She said the company would issue a statement.

Patrons will be able to enjoy the new upscale Showcase Cinema de Lux at Florence Mall offering the ultimate movie-going experience
DEDHAM, Mass. –April 28, 2008– National Amusements, Inc., a world leader in the motion picture exhibition industry operating more than 1,500 screens in the U.S., U.K., Latin America and Russia, today announced that Showcase Cinemas Erlanger closed for business on Sunday, April 27, 2008 after the last show.
The decision to close the theatre was made because the theater is being replaced with National Amusements’ new luxury theatre concept Showcase Cinema de Lux at Florence Mall which will open in late June 2008. The Showcase Cinemas Erlanger (9 screens) opened in (December 20, 1974) with five screens, screen six was added in May of 1978, screen seven was added in November 1978, screen eight was added in December 1984 and screen nine was added in October 1987. The theatre employs 22 staff members and National Amusements is making every effort to place these employees in positions at other National Amusements locations.
“Our employees are very important to us, and this is not a decision we make lightly,” said Wanda Whitson, company spokesperson. “We are making every effort to find these employees other opportunities within our company. We also wish to thank our loyal patrons who have shared great movies and memories with us over the years and invite them to visit the new Showcase Cinema de Lux when it opens in late June.”
The new Showcase Cinema de Lux Florence will feature National Amusements’ upscale theatre concept designed to provide patrons with the ultimate movie-going experience. Patrons will be able to indulge themselves with the new premium reserved-seating concept called Lux Level, which features exclusive VIP seating in select auditoria where guests can enjoy in-seat dining and snacks before and during the show, as well as other very special amenities. Designed for patrons 21 plus, the menu features American fare, luscious desserts, and innovative specialty cocktails. The theatre will also feature a Chatters Bar & Grill where patrons will be able to enjoy dinner and/or drinks before or after the movie, or just stop by to meet friends for lunch/dinner or an afternoon snack.
Programs at the new Showcase Cinema de Lux Florence will include Baby Pictures, Silver Screen Classics and Popcorn Club. Patrons of Showcase Cinemas Erlanger who enjoyed the special Bargain Tuesday, Senior Wednesday and StarPass loyalty program will be able to enjoy these same programs at all National Amusements theatres in the Greater Cincinnati area.
