The Capital Times is reporting today that Marcus Theatres Corp. has run into a delay in its plans to develop a movie theater and entertainment complex on the East side of Madison, Wisconsin:
The Milwaukee firm had hoped to have the entertainment complex, including 12 lanes of bowling and a sports bar, open for the Christmas season of 2009.
But that timetable is looking unlikely at this point, Marcus officials said Monday night after the Madison Plan Commission delayed action on the project for at least four weeks.
The city had raised red flags over parking, traffic and layout of the development, which had once been eyed as a pedestrian-oriented "mixed-use" residential and shopping center.
The company announced plans back in May 2008 to replace the nearby Eastgate Cinemas with a new movie theater and entertainment complex just North of the Eastgate Cinemas site, at Hwy 151 and Nelson Road.
Fortunately, Marcus has said that it will keep Eastgate Cinemas open until the new theater opens, giving moviegoers a "seamless" experience.
