Regal Cinemas announced today that 12 new IMAX installations are scheduled to be completed before the end of 2008. The first will be at the Edwards Fairfield Stadium 16 in Fairfield, California on October 31, 2008.

"Regal Entertainment Group is excited to announce the opening of the first IMAX theatre in Solano County. Our moviegoers will surely enjoy the unique image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience. We are confident that it will attract patrons from across the region," stated Dick Westerling, Regal Entertainment Group Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising.

These installations are a part of a joint venture between IMAX Corporation and Regal Cinemas that will bring the total number of IMAX theaters operated by Regal to 52 by the end of 2010.

All of the installations will be implementing IMAX's new digital projection system, which forgoes film-based projectors for digital projectors. Utilizing the IMAX digital projection system, these theatres will showcase Hollywood blockbusters that have been digitally re-mastered into the unique image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience as well as original documentary-style IMAX content. Films are projected on a specially-designed screen that is slightly curved and moved forward to further immerse the audience. Images of exceptional quality, combined with IMAX's proprietary digital surround sound system and patented theatre geometry create "The IMAX Experience," making audiences feel as if they are IN the movie.

With proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology, several of today's biggest Hollywood releases, including The Dark Knight, 300, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Spider-Man 3 and many others have been converted into IMAX's immersive format and presented in IMAX theatres. The IMAX versions of these films have been met with excellent consumer response and critical acclaim. The upcoming slate of IMAX DMR films includes Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Monsters vs. Aliens.

Regal IMAX Theatres also offer IMAX® 3D. When filmmakers choose to integrate IMAX 3D into their movies, images leap off of the screen and into the laps of the audience, further enhancing the feeling of being IN the movie. This is made possible by a combination of IMAX's powerful 3D projection system - which simultaneously projects two separate images onto the IMAX screen - and polarized IMAX 3D glasses that audience members wear to fuse the two images into a single three-dimensional motion picture. The result is an amazing IMAX 3D Experience where the screen disappears and the movie envelopes the audience.

Regal Entertainment Group theatres reward frequent guests through the Regal Crown Club. More than 12-million moviegoers have joined the Regal Crown Club to make it the most popular loyalty program in the industry. Through the Regal Crown Club moviegoers accumulate credits at the box office and concession stand to earn free popcorn, soft drinks and movies. Membership is free and is available either at the theatre or online.
