|Home: BigScreen Journal - Greenfield, WI: Budget Cinema Demolition Delayed Until July 2011|
According to an article this summer in the GreenfieldNOW, the Silver Cinemas - Budget South in Greenfield, Wisconsin will not meet the wrecking ball as early as originally planned in order to make way for new development.
Plans for flattening the theater date back to December 2006, when the City of Greenfield was reviewing plans that would turn the area into a mix of residential and commercial use. In September 2007, plans were approved and the theater was scheduled to be torn down some time in 2009.
The GreenfieldNOW article, dated May 12, 2009, says that economic conditions have slowed progress on the development and the theater could stay open until July 2011:
The Common Council voted last week to amend the developer's contract that would push back the theater's demolition date to July 2011. The razing could occur earlier if the theater or developer gives 120 days notice. Until then, the theater is expected to continue to remain in operation.
