|Home: BigScreen Journal - Santa Cruz, CA: Del Mar Theatre to Install Digital Cinema|
The Del Mar Theatre in Santa Cruz, California will be upgraded to show movies with new digital cinema projection equipment, according to an article in the San Jose Mercury News:
Tuesday, the City Council approved a $150,000 loan for operators of downtown's landmark Del Mar Theater to acquire digital technology and equipment. The five-year, low-interest loan, comprised of redevelopment agency funds stemming from theater revenue, will allow the theater to show digital films in 3-D in the largest of its three screens, as well as digital broadcasts of concerts, operas and other special events.
The first 3D movie shown at the theater will be The Last Airbender 3D on Friday, July 2, 2010. The 3D equipment will utilize Dolby 3D technology.
