Movie fans in Anchorage, Alaska have reason to rejoice with the grand opening of the new Regal Cinemas Tikahtnu Stadium 16 & IMAX on Friday, June 11, 2010. Preview events started on Monday and the last one is tomorrow, before its first full day of operation on Friday.

The new 16-screen theater boasts Alaska's first IMAX theater, with a screen that measures more than 70-feet wide, according to the press release. It will be able to play IMAX 3D movies as well, including the upcoming Toy Story 3: An IMAX 3D Experience, which opens on June 18th. All of the screens at the Tikahtnu theater feature digital cinema projection with 3D capability from RealD. More than 3,000 people can attend the new theater at once and enjoy the stadium seating and high back rocking chairs with cupholder armrests that fold up for friendly seating for two.

Tomorrow, June 10th, is "Family Day at Regal" where family-oriented movies will be playing, and the proceeds from the $2 movies, $2 popcorn and $2 soft drinks will benefit "Wish Upon the North Star."

The theater will running first-run movies, including The A-Team and The Karate Kid in the regular screens, and Shrek Forever After: An IMAX 3D Experience in the biggest screen. Regal will be providing a free popcorn and soft drink with each paid admission between June 11-24. Customers receive a free Karate Kid T-shirt with the first 100 tickets sold each day at the box office June 11 – 13.
