The Watertown Daily Times is reporting that the Regal Cinemas Salmon Run Mall 8 in Watertown, New York will close July 30, 2010 in order to be razed as part of the theater's expansion project. The new theater is expected to open in Spring 2011:

"We've done as much as we can without working on the same spot where we are now," said Russell Nunley, vice president for marketing and communications for Regal Entertainment Group, Knoxville.

The new theater adds about 31,000 square feet and will total 51,000 square feet with more than 2,100 seats in a total of 12 auditoriums. The expanded theater will feature digital projection, more RealD 3-D projection systems, digital surround sound, stadium seating, a computerized box office and automated kiosks.

The next closest movie theater is the Black River Drive In Theatre, about four miles away in Black River.

Regal Entertainment Group has supplied us with additional information about their plans for the renovation.

According to their press release, the new theater will boast digital cinema projection systems, 3D capability using RealD equipment, and stadium seating in each of the 12 auditoriums.
