|Home: BigScreen Journal - Ft. Myers Beach, FL: Beach Theater Closes|
The Beach Theater in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida closed on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The News-Press published an article last week that quoted the manager as saying that attendance had dwindled to the point that keeping the theater open didn't make sense any longer:
Manager Nick Campo blamed the economy and a lack of good movies being released.
The theater's attendance had dwindled to 50 or so people a day - compared to 150-200 a day at Marco Movie Theater, Campo said. Both theaters are owned by the same business partners."It was doing OK, and then all of the sudden it just ... died," Campo said. "And we came to the realization that it's just time."

While this leaves no movie theater in Ft. Myers Beach, there are six movie theaters within 15 miles of the Beach Theater's location.
