Carmike Cinemas announced that the Carmike Ritz 13 in Columbus, Georgia will open on Friday, December 17, 2010 after being closed for renovations. Those renovations include the addition of three screens with stadium seating, and a complete renovation of the original ten screens. All auditoriums are now equipped with digital cinema projection systems and 7.1 digital surround sound. Five of them will be capable of RealD 3D presentations.
The Ritz 13 will also feature "The Screening Room," which is an auditorium that is dedicated to art and independent movies, including movies like Conviction, Black Swan, and The King's Speech.
Ticket sales and concession sales have been combined into one stop for moviegoers. While this arrangement can result in more convenience for customers looking to buy snacks, it can slow down the process of getting into the theater on busy nights if the staff is not on the ball. Time will tell if they are up to the task!
According to the press release, Carmike now owns/operates 240 locations in 36 states. They focus on small and mid-sized communities with populations of less than 100,000.
