The AmericanPlace Cinema Plaza in Flemington, New Jersey closed on Sunday, March 27, 2011, according to an article by The Messenger-Gazette on Wednesday:

The Cinema Plaza movie theater closed last night, meaning there's no commercial movie theater left in Hunterdon. It will be replaced by a development called the Shoppes at Raritan, which would include a CVS pharmacy, PNC bank, stores and a national chain restaurant.

Now John Monsport, owner/operator of the theater part of the plaza building, is working on a plan to create a “family entertainment center” nearby, he said today.

It could offer bowling, Skee-Ball, indoor electronic games and food along with a move theater, he explained. While he wouldn’t give the location, it’s “right in Raritan Township, within a mile of the current location,” he said.

Moviegoers in the area do have options, however, as long as they're willing to drive a few miles. There are five movie theaters within 15 miles of Flemington, including the AMC Bridgewater Commons in Bridgewater.
