The AMC Town Plaza 5 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri closed December 1, 2011. An article on KVFS Channel 12's web site mentions the reason for the theater's closing:

In a written statement, AMC director of public relations Ryan Noonan blames the shutdown on a decline in business.

"We continually strive to upgrade the quality of our theatre circuit by adding new screens and by disposing of older screens through closures and sales," Noonan said.  "We do, however, look at our theatres on an individual basis. AMC Town Plaza 5 has been identified as a theatre that no longer competes effectively in the marketplace and will close at the end of business on Thursday, Dec. 1."

Fortunately for moviegoers in Cape Girardeau, the Wehrenberg Cape West 14 Cine has plenty of screens to fill the void the Town Plaza leaves behind.
