|Home: BigScreen Journal - San Francisco, CA: Balboa Theatre Leased by San Francisco Neighorhood Theater Foundation, Securing Its Future Through 2024|
The San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation announced plans today to lease the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco, California from owner Gary Meyer through 2024. This announcement secures the future of the historic theater for at least twelve years.
"It's great to be able to save another of San Francisco’s last remaining neighborhood cinemas," said Alfonso Felder, president of the S.F. Neighborhood Theater Foundation. "Gary Meyer has done an incredible job keeping the Balboa going and providing the Richmond district with an exceptionally well programmed neighborhood theatre. We're looking forward to working with Gary to establish a plan to keep the Balboa’s marquee lit for many more years."
The Theater Foundation plans to raise funds to repair and improve the theater. This is the second theater built by the Levin family in San Francisco that the group has been involved in saving. It purchased the historic Vogue Theater in San Francisco in 2007.
