|Home: BigScreen Journal - North Little Rock, AR: Regal McCain Mall Stadium 12 & RPX Opens|
The Regal McCain Mall Stadium 12 & RPX in North Little Rock, Arkansas opened last Friday, September 21, 2012. The new 12-screen theater features Digital Cinema Projection systems in each auditorium, with an unspecified number of them capable of 3D presentations. One of them is also Regal's RPX big screen concept, which offers an upgraded experience with a larger screen (reported to be 50' wide), enhanced sound, and usually an upcharge on the admission.
“Regal McCain Mall offers an amazing new way to experience movies with the ultimate in sight and sound for the very best presentation. We call it the Regal Premium Experience and it’s like choosing first class for your night out at the movies,” stated Russ Nunley, Regal Entertainment Group Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Regal Entertainment Group is thrilled to open this remarkable entertainment destination for the moviegoers of Little Rock.”
Additionally, Regal has installed Sony's Entertainment Access System, which assists deaf, hard of hearing, blind, and low vision customers to enjoy movies. Eyewear is available that provides closed captions in the viewer's line of sight, and wireless receivers provide descriptive audio feeds. This system allows all patrons to enjoy the same movie instead of having to look for special open-captioned and/or DVS presentations. It does appear that not all shows will have this available, so the press release says to look for the text "Accessibility devices available" in the comments that appear below the showtimes.
To celebrate the grand opening of the theater, Regal Cinemas is offering free popcorn and soft drinks with each paid admission through October 4, 2012.

This movie theater was first announced in April 2011 as part of a mall-wide renovation project.
The new theater is a block away from the Showplex Cinemas Lakewood 8 Theatre and just across the Highway 67/167 & McCain Boulevard interchange from the Cinemark Tandy Movies 10, which are sure to see some results of the new competition. Having 30 screens in such a small space usually doesn't work out too well, so it will be interesting to see who blinks first.
Regal Entertainment Group is the largest theater chain in the United States, with theaters under the brands of Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres, and United Artists Theatres. The press release states that they currently operate 522 locations in 37 states (and Washington D.C.) as of August 30, 2012.
