The Casablanca Cinema 4 in Bethel, Maine closed on September 20, 2012. Their web site simply says:
WE ARE CLOSED
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRONAGE
An article published September 27th in The Bethel Citizen mentions that that the closure was a result of declining attendance at the theater and the upcoming costs of the mandatory industry conversion to Digital Cinema Projection systems, which can cost between $60,000 - $75,000 per screen.
According to the aforementioned article, the theater opened in 1995 and the current owner, Elaine Riendeau, has been there since 2000.
Moviegoers in the Bethel area will have to travel to find movies on the big screen now. The two closest theaters are the Flagship Cinemas - Oxford in Oxford (about 20 miles away) and the Magic Lantern Movie Theater in Bridgton, which is almost 30 miles away.
