|Home: BigScreen Journal - La Porte, IN: LaPorte Lion Cinemas Closes Again|
The LaPorte Lion Cinemas in La Porte, Indiana has closed again, the third time in three years.
A local news article quotes the theater's owner about why it closed:
Despite major facility upgrades, there just were not enough customers, said Neal O'Connor, owner and operator of the building.
O'Connor said his wife lives in California and he was hoping to make enough of a profit to hire a full-time local operator so he could spend more time with her at their home.
O'Connor, however, said not enough business was coming in to afford hiring a manager. The last movie will be shown Sept. 6.
"Being so far away it was never really viable for me to run a retail business some 2,000 miles away," O'Connors said.

Moviegoers in the area can visit the AMC Showplace Michigan City 14 in Michigan City for a large number of choices, as well as the Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks, Michigan (about 15 miles away) for art-house fare.
