The Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas at Movieland in Richmond, Virginia opened December 28, 2012. According to the Bow Tie Cinemas web site, the new theater has four auditoriums equipped with Digital Cinema Projection systems and leather rocking seats. It is being billed as a showcase theater for art and independent movies in Richmond.

The new theater is located adjacent to the Bow Tie Movieland at Boulevard Square, which offers 17 auditoriums filled with more mainstream fare. A brief article posted on richmond.com quotes Ben Moss, owner of Bow Tie Cinemas, as saying:

"Richmond is a vibrant arts community, and we’re excited to offer movie-goers the opportunity to see art and independent films that wouldn’t previously have been available in the Richmond market,"
