Carmike Cinemas announced yesterday that the Carmike 12 - Decatur Mall in Decatur, Alabama will open on Friday, March 7, 2013 at 7pm. The new 12-screen theater will feature Carmike's big screen concept "BigD" auditoriums, with a 60 foot wide screen lit up by a Digital Cinema Projection system capable of both 2D and 3D presentations.

Carmike Cinemas president and CEO David Passman was quoted in the press release:

We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that centerpieces large format Digital with bigger screens, bigger and better sound, and the finest in-theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences. Furthermore, with the opening of our newest location, the Decatur area joins a select and growing list of communities across the nation offering Carmike theatregoers the exciting ‘BIGD’ format.

The Carmike 8 - Decatur will close when the new theater opens, and the Regal River Oaks Cinema 8, which was also located in the Decatur Mall, closed December 16, 2012.
