The Cedar Lane Cinemas 4 in Teaneck, New Jersey has closed. According to a story published on northjersey.com, the owner, Majestic-Star Entertainment, could not justify the cost of converting to Digital Cinema Projection systems:
For the first time in more than 40 years, the screens will be dark on a Saturday night at Cedar Lane Cinemas.
Teaneck’s iconic movie theater has shut down indefinitely, showing its last film a week ago, the latest in a string of small theaters across the country to close because they are unable or unwilling to upgrade technology.
The theater’s operator, Nelson Page of Majestic Entertainment, who owns three other small theaters, said he can’t afford the new digital projectors that soon will be required by the film industry. It would cost $300,000 to $500,000 to outfit Cedar Lane’s four screens with digital projectors, he said.

Moviegoers in the area do have some choices, though, with five other theaters within just five miles, including Clearview's Bergenfield Cinema 5.
