Kalamazoo, MI: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema To Open in Old Rave Motion Pictures Cityplace 14

Posted on Monday, March 25th, 2013 1:23 PM by Scott Jentsch

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema logoMoviegoers in Kalamazoo, Michigan were surprised in November 2012 when the Rave Motion Pictures Cityplace 14 closed unexpectedly., but they have reason to rejoice as Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has announced that they are moving in and hope to have the theater open as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Kalamazoo as early as late Spring 2013!

The company's web site already has a page online for the new location, and a Facebook page is keeping followers updated on their progress.

According to the web site, the theater will be reduced from 14 to 10 screens, but all ten will have Sony 4K Digital Cinema Projection systems and they're even going to keep some 35mm projectors around when the need to project film arises. Founded in 1997, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is known for its unique programming, serving food and drinks with movies, and its no-tolerance policies concerning talking and texting on cell phones.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema currently owns/operates 14 locations in Colorado, Missouri, their home state of Texas. and Virginia. This will be their first location in Michigan.

The theater is hiring, so if you're interesting in becoming part of the action, click on the Read link below for more information!

Michigan Live has been publishing a series of articles about the new theater as well, so check out the links below to read up on some recent developments:

I was very sad that the Rave Cityplace 14 closed last November. I just glad that Alamo Drafthouse will be the nbew owners of the Rave Cityplace 14. I'm not against serving beer at the new theatre, I don't drink except coke classic or wwater, and I might have something to eat while I'm there I live two blocks away from the theatre, so again it will be easy for me to go over there a watch a movie. Also, I'm going to miss the Rave Motion Pictures. I love the movie company. That theatre gave some independant and foreign language movies. Last year, they ran "The Artist," and "A Seperation." I hope that the new Alamo Drafthouse wiull show one or two independant movies. I'm looking forward in going down to the Alamo Drafthouse. I'm counting the days until the theatre is reopen again.
