|Home: BigScreen Journal - New York, NY: Clearview's 1st & 62nd Street Theater Closed|
Clearview's 1st & 62nd Street in New York City closed at the end of May 2013.
Clearview Cinemas was purchased recently by Bow Tie Cinemas, but this location was not part of the deal. A blog posting on the web site for the New York Post mentions that the theater's lease was ending was not going to be renewed:
The Bow Tie deal does not include Clearview's six-screen multiplex at First Avenue and 62nd Street, which has struggled to find an audience at an out-of-the-way location since it was opened by Cineplex Odeon chain in 1991. The Clearview spokeswoman said the lease was expiring soon and it would not be renewed.
Given that history, it's hard to imagine someone else showing movies at this location -- even though the East Side of Manhattan is one of the most underscreened areas in the country.
