|Home: BigScreen Journal - Milwaukee, WI: Times Theater and Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse Get Digital Upgrades|
The Times Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin have been upgraded to new Digital Cinema Projection systems, according to a press release issued by Neighborhood Theater Group, which owns both locations.
Even though some may lament the loss of film as a medium, digital projection is an industry-wide shift that is impossible for theaters to ignore. The good news is that, along with pristine images coming from their Barco projectors, lossless digital sound comes along for the ride!
One notable item from their press release is that they are installing "Precision White" screens instead of the standard silver screen material, which can create hotspots (where things are too bright in certain areas) on the screen, as well as an unreal "shiny" look to the projected image.
The new digital cinema projection systems greeted customers at both locations on July 19, 2013. They are planning to install the same equipment in the Avalon Theatre in Milwaukee, which is scheduled to open in late 2013 or early 2014.
