Edinburg, TX: Cinemark Movie Bistro Edinburg Opened August 30, 2013

Theater PhotoThe Cinemark Movie Bistro Edinburg in Edinburg, Texas opened August 30, 2013. The opening was announced by Cinemark in a press release, which mentioned that the theater will be the first in-theater dining experience in the Rio Grande Valley.

“Cinemark has called the Texas Valley home for over 20 years and we are excited to introduce a brand new concept,” states Tim Warner, Cinemark’s Chief Executive Officer. “The new Cinemark Movie Bistro offers our customers the highest quality presentation available paired with an enhanced dining experience.”

As can be inferred from the theater's name, it offers movie patrons more than just the usual movie theater concession choices. Their dining menu includes appetizers, pizzas and flat breads, sandwiches and wraps, quesadillas, tacos, and more. Alcoholic beverages will be served, including domestic and imported brands, as well as craft brews and Texas-brewed labels, as well as a selection of wines and frozen Margaritas and Daiquiris.

All six auditoriums feature Digital Cinema Projection systems, with four of them capable of 3D presentations. Premium seats have snack tables for food and beverages, and service is available before the movie starts. They recommend that guests arrive 30 minutes early so that they have time to purchase their seats and food so that it arrives before the movie begins.

The new theater is equidistant from the Carmike 20 - Edinburg and the Cinemark Hollywood USA - McAllen, neither of which offers the dining options of the Movie Bistro.

The opening of the new theater was something that many residents in the area probably thought would never happen. In late 2005, plans for an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema location were announced for the site, but the project was never finished after it failed to meet its original 2007 completion date. Cinemark announced earlier this year that they were leasing the site and would open the chain's new "Movie Bistro" concept here, as well as another in El Paso, Texas.
