North Haven, CT: Rave Cinemas North Haven 12 to be Replaced by New 14-Screen Cinemark Theater in 2015

Posted on Friday, September 12, 2014 11:19 AM

Cinemark logoCinemark Holdings, Inc., which operates movie theaters under the Cinemark, Century Theatres, CinéArts, Rave, and Tinseltown brands, announced this week that it plans to construct a new 14-screen movie theater in the same location as the existing Rave Cinemas North Haven 12 in North Haven, Connecticut. When the new theater is completed in Spring 2015, the existing building will be torn down, according to the press release issued this week.

The announcement lists the following amenities that will be available at the new theater:

  • State-of-the-art viewing environment with wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screens in all 14 auditoriums
  • New Luxury Lounger, electric-powered, oversized recliners with cup holders and footrests
  • 4K crisp, clear digital projection
  • Seven auditoriums will offer Cinemark’s immersive RealD 3D capability
  • Enhanced digital surround sound systems
  • Cinemark’s innovative cafeteria style concession stand – offering freshly-popped popcorn, Coca-Cola fountain beverages and favorite candy brands
  • Cinemark bar offering craft beers, wine and frozen beverages
  • Cinemark XD: Extreme Digital Cinema auditorium

The theater was opened in 1988 by National Amusements as the Showcase Cinemas North Haven. Rave Motion Pictures picked up the theater in 2009 as part of a large purchase arrangement with National Amusements and it became the Rave Motion Pictures North Haven 12. Cinemark purchased more than 30 Rave locations in 2012/2013, and this theater was part of that deal.

It looks like moviegoers that usually attend the North Haven 12 shouldn't see any interruption in the operation of the theater, but there will likely be construction-related issues in the parking lot, depending on where the new building will be located in relation to the existing one.
