Cinemark Holdings, Inc. announced recently that it plans to remodel the Rave Cinemas Huber Heights 16 in Huber Heights, Ohio. All auditoriums will have new "Luxury Lounger" powered recliners, and the lobby will be updated with a new concession stand and bar that offers beer, wine, and frozen drinks.

Construction should be finished before the start of the 2015 summer movie season.

“The Huber Heights complex has been part of the community for over 25 years,” commented Tim Warner, Cinemark’s CEO. “This full remodel will enable us to continue to offer our guests the highest levels of comfort and technology. Cinemark’s new Luxury Lounger recliners will be the perfect addition to this popular theatre and will offer customers a complete entertainment experience.”

Installing powered reclining seats seems to be the new trend in theater upgrades. Quite a few chains have replaced their standard seating with these recliners (see what Marcus Theatres has been installing), which take up quite a bit more space, so the seating capacity is reduced. With declining attendance numbers hitting many movie theaters industry-wide, the benefits that theaters are seeing must be outweighing the reduced potential admission numbers. The irony here is that such seats have been commonplace in dedicated home theaters for some time, and now commercial movie theaters are following that trend in an effort to attract audiences.

Cinemark acquired the Huber Heights location when they purchased 32 Rave Cinemas locations in 2012. The company owns and/or operates 488 locations in the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, and other Latin American countries.
