The Republican posted an article recently that highlighted the reason for the theater's closing:
Industry wide tickets sales have been soft over the past year and theater was unable to negotiate a new lease for the site at lower rent, according to Jo Ann Overstreet, director of motion picture and corporate relations for Entertainment Management Corp.
The last films will be screened on Sunday night, she said.
"We have a great staff there, but we cannot get by with the cost of films, utilities and the rent," Overstreet said. "It's constantly been in the red."

According to the news article below from WGGB, the nearby Springfield Plaza is getting some major upgrades. The theater building is separate from that development, but it's possible that increased traffic as a result of those upgrades could attract a new theater operator to the location.
Until that might happen, however, moviegoers in the area will need to visit the Rave Cinemas West Springfield 15 or the Rave Cinemas Eastfield 16, both of which are five miles away or less. Those willing to travel a little further will find a few more theaters from which to choose.
